The President, Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora (OCI) Foundation, Dr Chris Ifediora, has advocated for inclusion of preventive measures of cancer in the curriculum of schools in Nigeria. Ifediora stated recently at CDM Academy International, Mkar in Gboko Local Government Area (LGA), Benue during its health promotion campaign.
Represented by his Legal Adviser, Barr Steve Ononye, the don stressed that if cancer enlightenment was incorporated into the school’s curriculum, it would go a long way in reducing the scourge because its preventive measures would be taught to many in a record time. “This will be achieved because the teachings will be done multiple times for the same cohort of students and repeated over a number of years for them. “Regular assessment and examination systems will also be integrated into the campaign,” he said.
He promised to donate assorted books on cancer to school libraries. “These are designed to ensure that lessons gained by the students stay with them long beyond their high school years. “Also, teachers will be trained at no extra costs to the schools management,” he said.
Also, the Wife to the Benue Governor, Dr Eunice Ortom, disclosed that she had been in the vanguard of supporting cancer patients in the state since 2016 and would not cease to do that. Ortom said the cancer awareness campaign initiated by OCI was very wonderful and would give it the desired support.
The institution’s School Manager, Mrs Victoria Akuhwa, enjoined participants to take the campaign seriously and ensure they spread the good message thereafter.
