The OCI Foundation International was hosted by the newly-appointed APC House Majority Leader in the Nigerian House of Representatives, Hon. Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, at the National Assembly (NASS) Complex, Abuja, Nigeria. Prof Ihonvbere is the Member representing Owan Federal Constituency of Edo State, Nigeria.
At the visit, the Foundation congratulated Prof Ihonvbere on his recent emergence as the Majority House Leader, and thanked him for supporting the Foundation’s 2 bills that successfully scaled through the 9th NASS.
Prof Ihonvbere is a strong ally of the OCI Foundation, and sponsored an OCI Foundation-initiated Bill that seeks to introduce Preventive Measures and Teachings of Anti-Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) into the Civic Education Curriculum of all Secondary Schools in Nigeria. The Bill was fully passed by both chambers NASS in the 9th Assembly, and is now awaiting Presidential assent to become law.
Alongside Hon (Dr) Tanko Sununu, Prof Ihonvbere also co-sponsored another OCI Foundation-initiated Bill titled, “Mandatory Inclusion of Teachings on Breast, Cervical, and Prostate Cancers into the Curriculum of Senior Secondary Schools and Colleges of Education in Nigeria Bill, 2023”.
Also in attendance at the Wednesday meeting with Prof Ihonvbere was Hon. Prince Odianosen Okojie, husband of the Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson. He is the Member representing Esan South-East/Esan North-East Federal Constituency of Edo State.
The OCI Foundation was represented by Dr Ndaeyo IWOT, Barr Vivian Obinwa, and Mr Luter Ikyobo. They were joined by Barr. Dele Ahamisi, the Senior Legislative Assistant to Barr Ihonvbere, and also an associate of the OCI Foundation.
