Jos-based dance youngsters experience the OCI Foundation’s Arm Our Youths (ArOY) Health Campaign, as Plateau State (Nigeria) begins to join benefiting states

As part of the OCI Foundation’s commitment to reaching all parts of Nigeria with its life-saving, novel, anti-cancer message, the Advocacy Team of the Foundation, led my Mr Luter Ikyobo, was in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, from August the 8^th to the 10th, 2020.

Highlights of the visit were:

1. A dance session with the Split Dance Academy, Jos, an elite dance group that may be using their talents to advance and amplify the OCI Foundation’s anti-cancer Gospel. Videos of choreographed dances by the talented members of this Dance Group are shown above, while a promotional advert they produced for the Foundation is shown below, along with various pictures;
2. A visit to the Stone Ezekiel Dance Troupe. This group is located in a small town, about 1 hour from the heart of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. It is made up of talented kids, who are mainly orphaned or living with single parents;
3. Consultations with the proprietors of a number Senior Secondary Schools in Jos, Nigeria. Senior Secondary (High) schools are groups that are that are primarily targeted with of the OCI Foundation’s Arm Our Youths (ArOY) Health Campaign.

These visits and consultations mark the first of what will be a major entry of the OCI Foundation into the Plateau State of Nigeria, and is part of our larger goal of reaching out to all the 36 States (and the FCT) of Nigeria by 2025.

Already, we have presence in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Anambra, Benue and Lagos States, and are in negotiations with stakeholders in Kano, Gombe and Jigawa States.

The ArOY Campaign is a novel, Harvard-endorsed, WHO-supported, and evidence-based health promotion initiative of the OCI Foundation, which aims to introduce anti-cervical and anti-breast cancer teachings into the school curriculum of all Nigerian senior secondary schools by 2025, as a way of tackling breast and cervical cancers.  It also has support of the United States Centers for Disease Control (U.S. CDC), as well as multiple universities in Australia, Canada and Nigeria.
