On August 29, 2024, on the invitation of the Harvard Club of Australia, the OCI Foundation’s President, Dr Chris Ifediora, was among the Harvard Alumni who attended the 80-year anniversary/commemoration of the withdrawal of the United States Army’s 105th General Hospital from the University of Queensland’s Gatton Campus in Australia.
Some Pics . . .
Story has it that the 105th General Hospital, mostly staffed by medical practitioners trained by Harvard University and often referred to as the “Harvard General Hospital,” moved into what was then known as the Queensland Agricultural College on July 11, 1942. This was during the peak of the Second World War (WW II).
They stayed there for two years, serving as the primary military hospital supporting the South West Pacific Military Campaign of WWII. About 3,000 US-trained doctors treated over 19,000 patients for war wounds and tropical diseases during this time.
For Dr Ifediora, it was a great opportunity to meet other Harvard Alumni in Australia and relish pieces of history from WW II.
As a proud alumnus of the Harvard Postgraduate Medical School graduate, Dr Ifediora looks forward to more engagements with the Harvard Community in Australia and globally.
