The Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora (OCI) Foundation has advocated the inclusion of cancer preventive measures in school curriculum in Nigeria.

President of the Foundation, Dr Chris Ifediora, made the call Wednesday at the CDM Academy International, Mkar in Gboko LGA of Benue state during its health promotion campaign.

He said if cancer teaching is incorporated into the school curriculum, it would go a long way to reduce the scourge because its preventive measures would be taught to many in a record time.

Represented by his legal adviser, Barr Steve Ononye, Ifediora said the continuous exposure of the students to preventive measures is necessary to stem the dreaded disease in the bud.

“This will be achieved because the teachings will be done multiple times for the same cohort of students and repeated over a number of years for them.
“Regular assessment and examination systems will also be integrated into the campaign,” he said.

He promised to donate assorted books on cancer to school libraries.
“These are designed to ensure that lessons gained by the students stay with them long beyond their high school years.
“Also, teachers will be trained at no extra costs to the schools management,” he said.

Wife of the Benue governor, Dr Eunice Ortom, who also spoke at the occasion disclosed that she had been in the vanguard of supporting cancer patients in the state since 2016 and would not cease to do that.
