Designation: Pathologist, OCI Foundation’s Gynocular Cancer Project

 

Dr. Olabode Peter Oluwole, a Pathologist with the Gynocular Cancer Project, an initiative of the OCI Foundation for digital cervical screenings in Nigeria, is an Associate Professor and Consultant Pathologist with the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, Abuja, Nigeria.

 

Prof. Oluwole obtained his primary medical degree from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (2000), and is 2006 Fellow of the Faculty of Pathology, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. He holds multiple other fellowships. These include:

 

  1. Fellow, Geraldine Colby Zeiler Pulmonary Pathology and Cytopathology, MAYO Hospital, Arizona, USA (2011);
  2. Fellow, American- Austrian Pathology Seminar, Salzburg (2012), Austria (2013);
  3. Fellow, NIH Summer Course in Cancer Prevention and Molecular Pathology in Bethesda, Maryland, U.S.A (2013);
  4. Fellow, African Cancer Leadership (AORTIC) (2019).

 

Peter was also a former Head, Department of Pathology, Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, Kogi State, and was a former Deputy Dean, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, University of Abuja. He is also of the Department of Pathology/Forensic Medicine at the University of Abuja, Nigeria.

 

He is a recipient of 2 international awards, one of which was from the Harvard Medical School Award to attend the Conference on ‘The Contribution of Anatomic Pathology to the Health of Women and Child in Addis Abba, Ethiopia (2011). The second was from the National Institute of Health (NIH) to attend the Grant Writing Workshop and Scientific Conference on Prostate Cancer Disparities at NIH Rockville, Bethesda, Maryland (2011).

 

Prof Oluwole have been involved in a number of NIH-funded international research collaborative efforts over the past years. These include:

 

  1. The Sub-Saharan Africa Lymphoma Consortium (Ayers PI) NCI/NIH/MR-ACSR 2009) AIDS- associated malignancies (Adebamowo PI);
  2. The African Collaborative Centre for Microbiome and Genomic Research (Adebamowo PI, Transatlantic Prostate cancer Familial project (Odedina PI);
  3. The Men of African Descent and Carcinoma of the Prostate (MaDCap)

 

He has also collaborated with researchers around the world on the TCGA characterization of cervical carcinoma genome through Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria, an affiliate of University of Maryland, USA.

 

He has over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
