BACERS and CPR Knowledge for Nigerians: OCI Foundation Engages Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC (May 2024 and July 2025)

Sharing is caring!

As part of its firm commitment to ensuring that Nigerians are empowered with the knowledge and skills to respond appropriately during life-threatening emergencies, the OCI Foundation has continued to engage Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to forge a partnership that will ensure sustainability and reach of the program.

This is part of the OCI Foundation’s new initiative called BACERS (Basic Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Response Strategies).

BACERS is designed to optimise knowledge levels and basic skills required by Nigerians during life-threatening emergencies. The ultimate aim is to reduce the frequency of needless deaths resulting from sudden collapses, accidents and other unfortunate incidents.

A full rollout of training BACERS is expected across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT as soon as possible.

A minimum of 50% of all targeted Nigerians are expected to gain the required knowledge and skills within two years of BACERS roll-out, with 75% achieving the same results in five years.

Alongside the NYSC, the OCI Foundation intends to work with its existing partners, the NYSC and the Nigerian Medical Students Association (NiMSA) with the implementation of BACERS.

The Foundation will also be engaging the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) for this project.

Dr Iwot, Head of BACERS. OCI Foundation

BACERS is headed by Dr Ndaeyo Akpan IWOT, the OCI Foundation’s Liaison Officer with Nigeria’s FCT and the Federal Government. He is deputised for this project by Dr Fatima Inusa ANGA, the Foundation’s Officer in charge of the LAMS Initiative and the Gynocular Project.

Both officers were accompanied to the meetings by Ms Felicia DAGU (OCI Foundation’s Admin officer) and Mr Luter Ikyobo (Social and Entertainment Officer).
