Dr Ndaeyo Akpan IWOT (OCI Foundation’s FCT and FG Liaison Officer)
Dr Ndaeyo Akpan IWOT, a retired Director with the Nigerian FCTs Primary Health Care Board (PHCB), officially became the “OCI Foundations FCT/FG Liaison Officer” on April 30, 2022. In this position, he is to assist the OCI Foundation in representations with officers and institutions of Nigeria’s Federal Government, with the exception of the NYSC (which is headed by Alhaji Abdullahi Rufai, the OCI Foundation’s Permanent Liaison Officer to the NYSC) and the Nigerian National Assembly (headed by Barr Vivian Obinwa).
He brings with him, over 25 years’ of work experience at leadership/management positions in the Nigerian FCTs public health/primary health care sectors.
He was a distinguished staff of the Nigerian FCT PHCB, Health and Human Services Secretariat, where he served as the Head/Director Department of Primary Heath Care Planning, Research and Statistics (for about 4 years), Director PHC Department (for another 4 years) and, finally, for another 4 years leading to his retirement, as the Acting Executive Secretary of the FCT-PHCB. In his time as the Acting Executive Secretary, he played a pivotal role in the establishment of the “OCI Foundation’s Gynocular Centre” for digital cervical cancer screening in Abuja, Nigeria.
Dr Iwot is proficient in public health laws, policies, guidelines, strategies and activities formulation for health care industry leadership and corporate governance. He is also very passionate about community health services, and creates strategic alliances with public and private organizations in ways that effectively align them with, and support key primary health care initiatives. Over the years, he has distinguished himself for successfully building and retaining high performing teams by successfully assembling, developing and motivating skilled professionals and support staff, as required.
Dr Iwot holds a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MB; BCH) degree from the University of Calabar, as well as a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Both universities are in Nigeria. He also has a Master of Business Administration, MBA (Health Care Management) from the Paris Graduate School, France.
Dr Iwot holds multiple awards. He is a recipient of the African Heritage Foundation Nigeria Public Service Certificate of Merit (2021), the National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum South-West Caucus Distinguished Leadership Award (2021), the FCTA Award for Outstanding Leadership (2020), and the Ministerial Commendation for pioneering the UN Award-winning program, Mailafiya, among others. In February 2022, the OCI Foundation also officially recognized him as an “Eminent Partner”.
He is happily married, with children.
