NOTE: In view of the COVID-19 Pandemic, this event has been postponed, and a new date will be announced as soon as normalcy returns.

The long-awaited partnership between the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) and the Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora (OCI) Foundation is  set to be officially launched on Monday, May the 25th, 2020, in Abuja, the Capital City of Nigeria. The event is expected to be hosted by the Director General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, and at least 4 serving ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2 First Ladies, academics, royal fathers, and many others, are expected to attend this event. Details on the venue, time and the full list of expected guests, will be made available soon.

The NYSC is the official arm of the Nigerian Federal Government that oversees the one year compulsory national service of graduates from all Nigerian tertiary institutions. Annually, about 3.2 million Nigerian youths pass through the scheme, and this partnership with the OCI Foundation will ensure that anti-cancer messages will become part of the regular orientation activities that will reach all participants in the scheme.

The ArOY Campaign is a Harvard-endorsed, WHO-supported, evidence-based health promotion initiative of the OCI Foundation, which aims to introduce anti-breast and anti-cervical cancer teachings into the regular curriculum of all senior secondary schools in Nigeria and other developing countries. The Campaign is designed to reach all of Nigeria’s 36 States (plus the Federal Capital Territory), along with all the high schools in the Country, by the Year 2025. The partnership with the NYSC ensures that Nigerian graduates will also benefit from the Campaign.

In September 2019, Anambra State became the first State in Nigeria to commence the ArOY Campaign, following a 3-day colorful ceremony that was held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria. A documentary of that event is available HERE, while pictures from the events are available HERE, AND HERE. Benue State is set to be the second State in Nigeria to benefit from this novel, life-saving event.
