The “OCI Foundation’s Award for Excellence in Pathology” was originally announced on August 6th, 2024 and subsequently publicised officially by the University in a Facebook Post HERE.
The award will be an annual program, with cash rewards to be made available to the top three Pathology performers in each year’s graduating class.
The award presentation is now part of the Swearing-in and Graduating ceremonies for each new batch of medical doctors from the University.
In an original letter to the Vice Chancellor of NAU, the initiator and Founder of the OCI Foundation, Dr Chris Ifediora, stated that “this award is aimed at inspiring improved overall academic performances in medical training . . . with a particular focus on Pathology.”
Ifediora, an alumnus of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Medical School, made the very first Distinction Score in Pathology during his 3rd MBBS Exam at the institution. This history informed the OCI Foundation’s board’s decision to fund this award.
The OCI Foundation is grateful to the Faculties of Basic Clinical Sciences and Medicine of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, as well as the Provost of the institution’s College of Medicine, for facilitating this Induction Ceremony. We look forward to a healthy and long-lasting relationship on this Award and more.
Already, the OCI Foundation has multiple undergraduate students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (in both the Awka and Nnewi campuses) on its scholarship program, which includes financial and accommodation support, among other things.
