2024 International Women’s Day, IWD: Full Story/Pics as OCI Foundation Delivers Anti-Cancer Talks to Journalists under NAWOJ (Abuja, Nigeria; 9/3/24)

OCI Foundation’s Dr Ayom Aondofa and Ms Felicia Dagu joined the FCT Branch of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) to mark the “2022 International Women’s Day (IWD)”. All the pictures from the event are included below.

The annual IWD is held on March 8th, and provides a constant avenue for promoting the women’s rights movement while bringing issues like gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence/abuse against women to the fore.

At this year’s event organised by NAWOJ, the OCI Foundation’s Dr Aondofa (also of the Nigerian Cancer Society, NCS) delivered talks on anti-breast and anti-cervical cancers to female journalists. The program was held at the Chief Palace, Garki, Abuja, Nigeria.

For years now, the OCI Foundation has been at the forefront of activities that promote female welfare across Nigeria. In 2023, the Foundation partnered with the Nigerian National Assembly (NASS) to pass two pieces of legislation in this regard.

One of the bills aims to introduce anti-breast and anti-cervical teachings into the curriculum of Senior Secondary Schools and colleges of Education across Nigeria. The other bill integrates anti-Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) teachings into the curriculum of all secondary schools (junior and senior) in Nigeria.

Both legislative bills have been fully passed by the two chambers of the Nigerian NASS, and now only await presidential assents to become laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The OCI Foundation is relentlessly working with the relevant authorities to make these happen.
