14 Dec 2020 OCI Foundation to support pro-bono (free) legal services for indigent Nigerians (11/12/20)
On Friday, December the 11th, 2020, the OCI Foundation pledged to collaborate with the Onitsha Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association’s (NBA), in providing free (pro-bono) legal services to Nigerians who cannot afford it. This will be part of the OCI Foundation’s Public and Social Welfare package, which is the third arm of its humanitarian activities, alongside Health and Education. The NBA is the peak body of all legal practitioners in Nigeria.
The announcement was made by the Foundation’s President, Assoc. Prof. Chris Ifediora, during the 2020 NBA annual Bar Week Dinner in Onitsha, Nigeria. The President, who was represented by the OCI Foundation’s National Champion, Rev Dr Ifeanyi Epunam (also the Founder of the Sweet Home Africa Humanitarian Foundation, SHAHF), also confirmed that the Foundation donated a Toyota Corolla Car the NBA, and delivered a free lecture on breast, cervical and prostate cancer preventive strategies to the body.

Earlier at the NBA dinner, the Dr Ifediora was awarded a Humanitarian Servcice Award by the Leagal Body. The Chairman of the NBA, Onitsha Branch, Barr Onyechi ONONYE, is the OCI Foundation’s Legal Adviser, and will be key in the NBA-OCI Foundation partnership on the pro-bono services.
The OCI Foundation was established in 2016 as a Nigerian NGO designed to “Promote and Advance Health”, “Advance Education”, and “Advance Social & Public Welfare” among the Nigerian populace. In 2018, it attained an international status with full registration in Australia as well.
