The OCI Foundation UK has featured at the “2024 Zenith Global Health Summit” whose theme was to “use a one health approach in advancing population health and tackling inequalities and access to healthcare”.
At the event, the OCI Foundation announced its intention to introduce the Literary and Research Award for Medical Students, LARAMS, a program uniquely designed to identify, inspire, and reward young doctors-in-training and promote literary dexterity and research skills among the next generation of doctors.
The OCI Foundation UK intends to partner with Zenith Global Health and other like-minded organisations as they engage the relevant authorities in the medical schools across England and Wales.
At the event, Michelle Akwara, a corporate lawyer representing the OCI Foundation and its President, Dr Chris Ifediora, stated that “doctors empowered through LARAMS are expected to lead the world in addressing health inequalities”.
She added that the OCI Foundation International is committed to fully rolling out this annual program over the next 18 months, not just for British medical schools, but also for those in Australia.
It should be noted that a version of LARAMS, known as the LAMS (Literary Award for Medical Students), has been held annually for Nigerian medical students over the past 4 years.
The OCI Foundation UK gained official recognition from the Charity Commission for England and Wales on October 3, 2023, making Europe the third continent (in addition to Africa and the Asia-Pacific) where the OCI Foundation International exists. In all its locations, the Foundation aims to Advance and Promote Health, Advance Education, and Advance Social and Public Welfare.
This is the second event held by the OCI Foundation UK on British soil (having held a charity outing in Liverpool on September 12, 2024) but third overall (having featured at the “2024 Africa Healthcare Awards and Summit by Zenith Global Health”, in Accra, Ghana).
