The OCI Foundation is an international (Australian and Nigerian-registered) not-for-profit organisation that was formally established to promote and advance health, promote education, and promote social and public welfare. Its ArOY Campaign is its flagship health initiative that was designed with the help of the Harvard Medical School (USA), and has the support of the World Health Organisation Country Office in Nigeria. Experts from the Griffith University (Australia), the University of British Columbia and Saskatchewan (both in Canada), and the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Nigeria), are all part of this project.
The Foundation’s ArOY Health campaign aims to introduce anti-breast and anti-cervical cancer teachings into the curriculum of all senior secondary schools in Nigeria, using novel, evidence-based measures that are realistic, cost-effective, effective, wide-reaching, culturally acceptable, and sustainable.
To guarantee the success of the program, teachers in senior secondary schools across the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory need to undergo training that will enable them adequately teach and assess the students in a standardized, sustainable, and effective way. The training is being offered separately as Course 1 of the ArOY Program.
In addition, a need arises to monitor the concerned teachers. This applies to all participating senior secondary schools across the 36 states of Nigeria and the FCT, and this short training course (Course 2) is designed to prepare the monitors for this task, and have them undergo the required training with ease.
The course is free, and a certificate will be issued if all the 2 modules are completed, and the minimum pass scores for the accompanying quizzes are attained.
The Ministries of Education in the respective states can establish their own monitoring teams. However, selected staff from the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in these states can assist. The NOA has an MOU with the OCI Foundation, and are ready to assist with the monitoring in places where the states lack the capacity, or where collaborations are needed.
The OCI Foundation provides training for the NOA staff, along with the provision of technical support, while the individual states are expected to assist with logistics and financial support, as needed. The monitoring will be on an ongoing and permanent basis, and is designed to be self-sustaining.
Each Module has a number of lessons, along with accompanying videos and quizzes. At the end of all the modules, there will be a final quiz. The modules are listed below.
