Results and Winners of the 2023 IFOMSSA (JUNIOR AND SENIOR) Scholarships; 2023 Awards Ceremony Scheduled for April 8, 2023

Introduced in 2017, the IFOMSSA (Ifedioramma Okafor Memorial Secondary School Academic) Awards was established in loving memory of the late Obi Ifedioramma Isaac Okafor, who is the father of the OCI Foundation Founder, Dr. Chris Ifediora. In his lifetime, Pa Ifedioramma was an education champion.

This year’s Awards-giving Ceremony, an annual event where the winners and their parents are usually honoured, has been scheduled for Saturday, April 8th, 2023 (details below):

It can be recalled that the selection exam (IFOMSSA Challenge) for the IFOMMSA Senior category was held Thursday, March 30th, 2023, in Nsugbe, Anambra State, Nigeria.

The IFOMSSA awards were introduced in 2017, and has held annually since then. This is the 7th Edition. Most of the recipients go on to receive the OCI Foundation’s JAMB Awards and the Cyfed Undergraduate Scholarships, which are among the 6 sets of scholarships on offer from the OCI Foundation.

Selection Criteria

Selection of the winners were based on the students’ performances in the 2023 IFOMSSA Challenge. The top seven, as has always been the case, make up the Merit List. The Catchment List for this year was made of Six additional six names. This Catchment measure was introduced to ensure that all participating towns in the Otuocha Educational Zone of Anambra State (made up of Anambra East, Anambra West, and Ayamelum Local Government Areas) were represented in the winning list. An eligible participant can only be included in the Catchment List if he/she is the best from a town that was not represented in the Merit List, and also made an aggregate score of at least 40%. Towns that did not meet these two criteria has no winner in the final list. Nsugbe, the home town of the President, has a minimum of 3 winners in the final list (Merit and Catchment combined).

All participants in the IFOMMSA Challenge (including non-winners) are eligible for the OCI Foundation’s JAMB Awards and the Cyfed Undergraduate Scholarships, which are among the 6 sets of scholarships on offer from the OCI Foundation.

There were also 24 winners of the 2023 IFOMSSA Junior Award. The Junior award is reserved for all JSS-3 students of Nsugbe origin attending the Community High School (CHS), Nsugbe. They will each get sums equivalent to the registration fees of their Junior School Certificate Examinations, JSSCE.
