16 Jan 2023 Anambra Schools ArOY Health Campaign: Zoom meeting held between OCI Foundation and Anambra Civic Education Teachers (15/01/23)
Sunday, January 15, 2022: A virtual meeting was held today between the OCI Foundation and Civic Education teachers in Anambra State schools. This concerns the Arm Our Youths Anti-Cancer Health Campaign with Senior Secondary Schools in the State.
The meeting was primarily designed to strengthen the Campaign, ensure that its objectives are constantly being met, and identify all arising issues. Findings from the recent research evaluation of the project were also discussed.
It should be recalled that Anambra is currently the only State in Nigeria that has incorporated the OCI Foundation’s ArOY Campaign teachings into the curriculum of all its public Senior Secondary Schools. It is hoped that all Nigerian high schools will adopt it soon, as an OCI-Foundation inspired Bill to this effect is presently at the Nigerian National Assembly (Parliament). When it becomes law, such teachings will be made compulsory across all Nigerian high schools.
To further ensure the success the ArOY Health Campaign, the OCI Foundation also sponsors the annual “Anambra ArOY Health Campaign Schools Challenge (a.k.a. Anambra AHCSC)”, a statewide quiz competition for all public high schools in the State.
The Anambra AHCSC is being staged in conjunction with the State’s Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC). It is designed to enhance engagements with the OCI Foundation’s “Arm Our Youths (ArOY) Health Campaign”, which, in September 2019, introduced anti-breast and anti-cervical cancer teachings into the curriculum of all public senior secondary schools in Anambra State.
The Grand Finale will hold on February the 4th, 2023 in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, Nigeria. February 4th of every year is “Global World Cancer Day”, and the AHCSC Finals and Award Ceremony are designed to coincide with that date on a yearly basis.
