MODULE 3A: When, Who and How to Teach

NOTE: Before attempting any of the accompanying quizzes, there are 3 ways to complete the lessons. All 3 options contain identical information, and ANY one of the three can be used for the study. Kindly note that, whichever option is chosen, all the quizzes must be attempted and passed before a certificate is obtained for the Course. These options are:

1. ONLINE VIDEO OPTION: Watch the video below;
2. OFFLINE PDF (DOWNLOADABLE) OPTION: Download the attached PDF, read the material offline, then come back to complete the quizzes. This option allows the data requirements to be minimized, and may be the most cost-effective option for those in Nigeria and other developing countries;
3. ONLINE LESSON TEXT: Read all sections of the texts for this Curriculum, and go on to answer the associated quizzes.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this Module, participants are expected to:

1. Know “When and What” to teach the students regarding breast and cervical cancers as part of the ArOY Health Campaign; AND
2. Know “How” to teach the same things.

3A.1: WHEN AND WHO TO TEACH

1. Boys and Girls: not just girls
2. Repeat for each Term and Each Class
   1. Each SSS Year/Class: SS1, SS2 and SS3
   2. For all terms in each Class/Year: 1st term, 2nd term, 3rd term
   3. Each student gets taught & examined NINE TIMES before graduating
3. Choose 2 different weeks: Must be before mid-term exams each term
   1. Example: Week 3 for Breast Cancer; Week 4 for Cervical Cancer.

3A.2: HOW TO TEACH

1. A total of 90 minutes is needed for both cancer teachings
2. Separate breast cancer teaching from cervical cancer teaching: one week apart
3. Each lasts about 45-minutes;
4. The first 45 minutes will include all aspects of Breast Cancer;
5. The 2nd 45 minutes will include all aspects of Cervical Cancer;
6. ArOY Textbook provided for the libraries of all schools involved
   1. For Teachers
   2. For Students
7. Cover all aspects of the teachings: shown in subsequent slides•
8. OCI CerviBreast App is also a guide: mainly for Teachers
9. Refer students to the library:
   1. Textbooks for reading and exam preparations
   2. The CerviBreast App for those with smart phones.
