It should be noted that, since 2020, the OCI Foundation has consistently sponsored the Literary Award for Medical Students (LAMS) at both the Zonal and National levels for Nigerian medical schools. This MOU signing event further solidifies the OCI Foundation’s commitment over the next seven years.

Entries for the 2025 Edition of LAMS, now to be known as LARAMS (Literary and Research Award for Medical Students), will commence on July 1, 2025. It will mark the 5th Edition of LAMS at the national level in Nigeria and the 6th Edition at the South-east Zonal level.

Dr Fatima Inusa Anga, the Director of LAMS and the Gynocular Cancer Project of the OCI Foundation, led the organisation’s 4-person team at the event. The other members were Ms Felicia Dagu. Mr Luter Ikyobo and Dr Etomike Obianyo, all of the Foundation’s Abuja Advocacy Team.

According to Dr Fatima, the OCI Foundation’s President is a firm believer in the powers of education and, in December 2024, completed a PhD program from the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) in Queensland, Australia. She added that the Foundation, in addition to its firm commitment  to Nigerian medical students on LARAMS, aims to expand the program to all medical schools in Australia and the United Kingdom. The OCI Foundation International also exists in these two countries, and discussions for the rollout in both countries are in its advanced stages.
